FREE Art Reception: Black Excellence Exhibit

The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts) Visual Arts Department will hold a FREE Opening Reception for its 2026 Black Excellence Exhibit on Friday, February 6th from 6–8 PM in the school’s Corpora Gallery. The stunning exhibition: “Crossroads: The Archetype, The Icon, The Abstract” features the work of professional artist Femi J. Johnson, curated by Berrisford Boothe. Born in Manhattan and raised in Easton, PA, Johnson began his career as a master draftsman and designer, creating thousands of technical drawings before returning to fine art. His beautiful work has been exhibited both regionally and internationally. Artistic Director, Lorie Jane Devereaux shares: “By interacting with professional artists and their collections, our students have the opportunity to experience new perspectives on how to think about their own work. They see how an artist truly dives into their vision for their work and see it all come together.” This event is part of the Southside Arts District’s First Friday celebration!
ABOUT THE CHARTER ARTS VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM: The visual arts program of study at Charter Arts provides a well-rounded, structured, and classical fine art education. Approached as an academic as well as artistic discipline, the sequence of courses inspire students to form connections across the curriculum. Students progressively build conceptual understanding as they work to advance skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, digital design concepts, photography, art history, and professional practices. Over the course of study within the visual arts program, students develop a portfolio expressive of their active studio participation, work ethic, personal inquiry, passion for art, and dedication to skill advancement. Charter Arts is an audition-based public charter high school, funded by Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars, for students who have a dedicated passion for the creative or performing arts. With seven artistic majors and a rigorous academic curriculum, students thrive both artistically and academically at a nationally recognized, award-winning school.
