Meet the Somm: Matt Check, Director of Winemaking
June 12 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Our Meet the Somm series is your chance to go beyond the glass and hear directly from the people behind the wine. On Friday, June 12, join us for an evening with Matt Check, Co-Founder and Director of Winemaking at Cellar Beast Winehouse. Matt brings more than a decade of wine experience, combining the perspective of a professional sommelier with the hands-on work of crafting each Cellar Beast vintage. As a Level IV Sommelier trained at the Wine School of Philadelphia, Matt approaches winemaking through both sensory precision and deep knowledge of the world’s great wine regions. Through long-standing relationships with growers in renowned West Coast regions such as Red Mountain and Willamette Valley, he sources high quality fruit that is brought to Pennsylvania and crafted into Cellar Beast wines.
During this guided session, Matt will walk guests through a curated tasting while sharing stories from the winehouse, insights into sourcing and winemaking, and the philosophy that shapes each vintage. From blind tasting techniques to the role of terroir, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from the winemaker behind the wines.
Matt’s work has earned national recognition, including multiple Double Gold medals and a 97 point score for Cellar Beast’s flagship wine, Dark Angel, at the Sunset International Wine Competition in Sonoma.
What’s included:
-Guided tasting led by Matt Check
-Multiple Cellar Beast wine pours
-Behind the scenes insight into winemaking, sourcing, and tasting techniques
