Nurturing the next generation
A historic Easton landmark now thrives as a center for early childhood learning.
Inside Easton’s historic Simon Mansion, laughing children follow their teachers, proudly carrying their latest art projects or lining up behind the day’s line leader en route to the gym. For these children, the mansion is their classroom, playground, and space to learn vital early education skills as part of The Learning Center at Third Street Alliance.

In Easton’s historic downtown district, The Learning Center offers year-round programming for children from six weeks old to 13 years old. As a Keystone STAR 4 accredited program—the highest quality rating in Pennsylvania’s Keystone STARS system—The Learning Center meets rigorous standards for curriculum, staff qualifications, family engagement, and continuous improvement.
Founded in 1988 as part of Third Street Alliance for Women and Children, The Learning Center supports the organization’s mission of providing housing stability and programming for women, children, and families. The program operates Monday through Friday from 6AM to 6PM, delivering a curriculum that encourages social interaction, enrichment opportunities, and early literacy skills.
“Their day is filled with fun and laughter while receiving a great early educational experience. Our teachers love what they do and it shows in the growth of our students.”
–Nicole Recker, Director of The Learning Center
Each age group, from infants to school-aged children, participates in developmentally appropriate learning experiences designed to nurture confidence and curiosity. They engage the community through field trips and student visits from local Easton schools and Lafayette College. When the school year ends, dedicated staff members continue serving children during the summer months.

The Learning Center has continued to evolve in recent years. In 2022, a long-unused pool on the building’s lower level was renovated into two additional classrooms. Around the same time, the gymnasium was upgraded with new windows and updated furnishings. Looking ahead, The Learning Center team aims to expand its outdoor space.
