Now through March 7th, 2021 critically acclaimed photographer Stephen Mallon shares a collection of some of his most captivating, riveting, and thought-provoking pieces in this new exhibit at Bethlehem’s National Museum of Industrial History. Join us as we explore Machines of Interest, and embark upon the journey of an industrial lifecycle and uncover the stories of their existence. From life on the rails to deconstruction in the recycling yard to plummeting into murky depths of the sea, trace the elements of human-made machines as they intersect with the natural world. Featuring over two dozen original prints from the artist’s collection, Stephen’s work will give you a look at industry like never before.
Stephen Mallon’s work has documented everything from the salvaging of Flight 1549, the infamous crash that minted airline captain “Sully” Sullenberger as a national hero, to the recycling industry. With work appearing in The New York Times, NPR, The Atlantic, NBC, and beyond, Mallon’s work has reached and connected with large audiences. The exhibition includes selected pieces from the Stephen’s recent series Passing Freight, a visual celebration of the unique beauty and function of freight train cars in the United States. Mallon’s industrial landscape photographs isolate freight cars within the U.S’s iconic transportation system, which has played a critical role in supply infrastructure across the continent for hundred of years.
