Fresh Face: Easton Wine Project

Be a part of the project—the Easton Wine Project that is. You’re always welcome to pull up a chair. That’s the guiding spirit behind the new urban winery in the beautiful reclaimed industrial Silk Mill where, once upon a time, owner Justin Fretz’s grandmother worked. You can meet with friends, and make new ones, over a delicious glass of wine made right in Easton, Pennsylvania.

When Justin was traveling the world as a marine engineer, repairing boats from Japan to Ecuador, he was impressed by how cultures around the world celebrated eating and drinking. It was a social experience—and now the Palmer Township native is excited to bring that same spirit back home.

Love of home and family, and love of local, is a key part of the Project. Their goal is to produce a variety of delicious wines using at least 80% East Coast-grown grapes. And those wines proudly announce where they’re from, whether they’re Silk Mill Rosé, Free Bridge White, or Rover Red, named in honor of Easton High School’s mascot.

The goal, says Justin, is to create a destination for residents of the Lehigh Valley—“a place where everyone can enjoy good wine, beer, and food, and feel like you’re a part of it.” From the artwork on the walls and the bar built by local craftspeople, to the house-made wine and the bar bites, Easton Wine Project is community-crafted.
