Fig Giving Back: Ribbons of C.A.R.E.

Learn about Ribbons of C.A.R.E., a local nonprofit born from lived experience.

When founder Alecia Fegley was diagnosed with cancer at 28 while raising three young children, she quickly realized how fragile childcare support becomes when a parent faces serious illness. Rather than accept that gap, she transformed it into purpose, creating an organization dedicated to supporting parents battling cancer.

Today, Ribbons of C.A.R.E. serves as a lifeline for families navigating serious medical conditions by covering the cost of childcare, whether in daycare, in-home, or through a trusted family member or friend, so parents can attend surgeries, medical appointments, treatments, or simply rest.

Board Member Alexandra Woytowicz understands this reality firsthand. As a mom who has also faced a cancer diagnosis while raising young children, her connection to the mission is deeply personal. “When a parent is facing a serious medical challenge, routine and stability can quickly fall apart,” she shared. “Providing childcare support allows parents to attend treatment or rest without guilt, while giving children a sense of normalcy during an otherwise frightening time.”

Through its Childcare Grant Program, Holiday Support, and C.A.R.E. Craft Box Project, the organization provides direct, tangible assistance that eases both financial and emotional strain. Unlike many nonprofits focused solely on awareness, Ribbons of C.A.R.E. delivers immediate financial relief for childcare expenses. Support goes straight to local families.

It’s incredibly meaningful,” Alexandra said. “Knowing our efforts reduce stress for parents and provide security for children is deeply fulfilling.”

With plans to expand programming and hopes of opening a dedicated resource center and crisis nursery, Ribbons of C.A.R.E. continues to grow its impact. To learn more about their incredible work, visit ribbonsofcare.org.
