Fig Giving Back: Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley

Cancer affects more than the person diagnosed—family, friends, and caregivers feel its impact, too.

Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley (CSCGLV) is a beacon of hope for anyone navigating this journey. The nonprofit offers free programs to help patients and loved ones feel connected and supported through diagnosis, treatment, remission, and beyond.

A person’s entire world changes when they receive a diagnosis,” said James Pepe, Director of Development and Marketing. “While they focus on treatment, we focus on supporting their emotional well-being and that of their caregivers.”

CSCGLV provides counseling, support groups, art and mindfulness classes, and social programs that nurture emotional strength.Their wig salon, stocked with a variety of styles and colors, helps restore confidence for those undergoing treatment. “This place gave my mom the grace and dignity she was looking for during her diagnosis, all through a wig,” reflected Gina Stano, Executive Director. “Every woman should have that opportunity to feel the way she did.”

Every staff member, facilitator, and volunteer at CSCGLV shares a personal connection with cancer. “All of us here have a why, and it’s what makes us do the work every day,” said Gina. “It keeps us focused on what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, so we can give everyone a positive experience.”

“Community is stronger than cancer,” added James.“The proof is in the programs we provide.”

Reaching out for help can feel daunting, but CSCGLV is ready the moment someone does. “The hardest and most important step is reaching out to us,” James said. “Once people do, we’re all in and ready to support them.”

Take that first step toward finding community. Visit cancersupportglv.org to schedule a tour, explore programs, or get involved.
