Mind. Body. Heart. Spirit: 4Directions Counseling
“There’s great synergy and energy between us all,” says Dr. Milspaw. “And that allows us to craft a personalized approach to every person’s needs.”
At 4Directions Counseling LLC, everything (and everyone) works together in service of the bigger picture, and the whole person.
A group practice founded by Dr. Alex Milspaw in May 2017, 4Directions’ unique approach to treating mental health, pain, and trauma is integrative and interdisciplinary. Grounded in the 4-D Wheel therapeutic approach, encompassing a person’s mind, body, heart, and spirit, 4Directions offers a diversity of services as well as diverse service providers. “There’s great synergy and energy between us all,” says Dr. Milspaw. “And that allows us to craft a personalized approach to every person’s needs.”
4Directions’ dedicated team includes both male and female-identifying counselors who specialize in LGBTQIA, child, and adolescent populations; couples and families, including integrated families; and for those working through addiction, trauma, sexual health issues, and chronic and pelvic pain. They take pride in their “sex positivity and inclusivity, especially for clients with alternative sexualities or relationships,” says Sara Edwards, M.Ed. M.Ed.
Their therapeutic programs are never strictly talk therapy, but an experiential and holistic model that draws from a number of methods, all working in concert to speed the healing process from neurolinguistic programming to mindfulness meditation and hypnotherapy. Educating clients and other wellness providers is a cornerstone of their philosophy as well; Charlie Curtis, BCH, MNLP, offers training courses in hypnotherapy year-round to the general public.
“The big plan,” says Dr. Milspaw, “is to one day open a retreat center” a healing space that can offer yoga, a central location for workshops, and a direct connection to nature. “We pride ourselves,” she says, “on being able to address trauma in ways that most people do not” together, using personalized programs and tools that honor the uniqueness of every person.
