    Cold Weather Activities in Bethlehem

The cold breeze rustles the frozen branches. The roads are white with dusty salt remains. The heavy winter coat hangs by the door with its false assurances of comfort. We’re in the dead of winter vying for the long days of summer…

Some love the winter. They are excited for sleigh rides, skiing, and ice skating. I am not one of them. When I hear the words “cold weather activities” I think of a warm boozy drink and being buried under a pile of fuzzy blankets, you know, totally getting my hygge on. Yet, when composing a few ideas of cold weather activities to fellow readers, I fancy I cannot hand over my address for people to join, so I have some other ideas to share!

Here are four cold weather activities tailored to the winter weather ‘let’s hibernate’ personality in Bethlehem:

LEFT: Moravian Book Shop. RIGHT: Bethlehem Area Library.

    Get your literature game on

Tis the season to work on that book list! The Moravian Book Shop is just the place to find a range of books to suit your pallet. Speaking of pallet, the shop offers a complimentary tea from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm every Tuesday. Find your fancy and snuggle up in an inviting space with some warm beverages and snacks. Pinkies up!

Another option is also our public libraries! In fact, the north side Bethlehem Area branch has a book sale every other month held Wednesdays noon to 8:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. I’ve attended a few and I’m always impressed with the sheer amount and variety of books they offer along with the organization – it’s like a full-fledged book store!

LEFT: Social Still. RIGHT: Taco Tuesday at Molly's Irish Grille & Sports Pub.

    Start a new tradition

Hello, Taco Tuesdays! Sometimes you just need something to look forward to. May I present to you Taco Tuesdays! It’s the beginning of another long and cold week, might as well opt for some comfort food and a beer to help get you to hump day! Two favorite Bethlehem spots of mine are Molly’s Irish Grille & Sports Pub ($2.00 per taco) and the Social Still ($5 for two tacos and $5 draft beers).

    Catch a movie

Warm up with some classics or catch an independent or foreign film at Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas. Get cozy munching on popcorn and sipping a cocktail watching a film in the comfort of the indoors and away from those harsh frigid winds! If you want some deep belly laughs you can check out the monthly showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show complete with a live cast! The cinema also encourages guests to come in costume and tote some props! Great Scott! This is a reoccurring monthly event – every last Friday of the month!

    The Attic

    Clean out your closet

Lastly, the winter season is the perfect time to spruce up your closet for the next season. We have a ton of consignment shops around to tote your unwanteds to such as The Attic. If consignment isn’t your thing, you can certainly donate. I often head to Cathedral Church of the Nativity’s Thrift Shop to drop off items (open Tuesday-Thursday 10:00 am – 3:00 pm and Friday-Saturday 10:00 am – 1:00 pm).
