    Beyond Kibbles and Bits

Making a food choice when out to dinner can be tough. Do you try something new, or stick to what you know and love? While pondering this question you hear your neighboring table order something you hadn’t even seen on the menu and have a third option now in the mix. ARG! What to choose!

Now you have another choice – what will Fido have? Yes, Fido. You cannot walk down Main Street in Bethlehem without seeing a dog camped out underneath restaurant outdoor seating. Here are some restaurants that are dog-friendly in Bethlehem!

One restaurant in particular has taken this trend and ran with it.

McCarthy’s Red Stag Pub and Whiskey Bar offers Dog Plates for our furry friends on their Patty-O. Their meal starts out with a complimentary bowl of water and from there they have a few menu options. Your hound can feast on hamburger patties with white rice or grilled chicken with rice. This is all assuming they can abide by the Doggie Rules, such as avoiding the three “B”s – barking, biting, and begging. The full rules and menu options can be found here.

The owner of McCarthy’s, Neville Gardner, has two pups himself. He also owns Donegal Square which always has a bowl of water outside its doors. The shop also holds the yearly pet parade around St. Patrick’s Day. Needless to say, they love dogs there!

The Red Stag Pub may be the only local restaurant with an exclusive dog menu, but many other restaurants welcome the company our beloved companions! Fegley’s Bethlehem Brew Works welcomes all dogs with a bowl of water and often owners order their pups a burger from the kids menu. The Brew Works Allentown location takes it a step further with Yappy Hour on their Biergarten Patio every Tuesday from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. If you order a Yappy Hour special the purchase price is donated to an animal related non-profit which varies each week. Many other Bethlehem restaurants are dog friendly. The following restaurants also welcome your pup with a bowl of water:

    Tapas on Main
    The Wooden Match
    Cachette Bistro & Creperie

    Also have treats on hand:

    Apollo Grill
    The Brick

If you’re in the mood for a picnic, but don’t want to pack the basket, head to ArtQuest where you can order food from the Mike & Ike Bistro and tote food over to the lawn with your pup. Nothing better than snacking on Bavarian pretzels with Sparky!

So next time you want to go out on the town but feel guilty leaving your furry friend at home, don’t fret and bring him along for something beyond Kibbles and Bits!
